NGC 2237 - Rosette Nebula
December 2025
NGC 2237, the Rosette Nebula, is a large emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros at a distance of approximately 5,000 light-years. It surrounds the young open cluster NGC 2244, whose massive O-type stars ionize the surrounding gas and sculpt the nebula through strong stellar winds and radiation. Narrowband imaging reveals the stratified structure of ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur, highlighting shock fronts, filaments, and density variations produced by ongoing stellar feedback within this active star-forming region of the Monoceros OB2 association.
